Abstract
The Late Devonian plant assemblage of Leptophloeum rhombicum,Syringodendronsp.and Knorriasp.is first reported from the Malasu Formation which is considered as the Lower Devonian at the measured section from Mengbulake region, western Junggar.Based on the remeasured lithological association and the new findings, herein the Malasu Formation is renamed as the Late Devonian Tielieketi Formation in Mengbulake region, western Junggar. Our data indicate that the Late Devonian Tielieketi Formation was formed in neritic sea with storm and volcano activities under the background of archipelagoes.New materials and knowledge enrich the Late Devonian fossil association in Mengbulake region, and provide new evidence for the subdivision and correlation of the Devonian strata, and the evolution of the sed-,bio-and tectono-palaeogeography in western Junggar.
