Real motive behind Xie Lingyun’s pastoral poems

Xie Lingyun,being born.in troubled times and uncertain of his political future,was obsessed with worry in order to ease the mental stress,and devoted his attention to Buddhism.What his philosophical poetry dealt with was the process by which he felt the comprehension of Buddhism through sight-seeing.But as his strong aestheticism and aesthetic ideology transcended those of common philosophical poets.Xie unconscously lost himself in the depiction of nature,thus weakening the initial aim of demonstrating Buddhist ideas.Thus he is only regarded as a pastoral poet by the later generations.Yet he originally meant to compose philosophical poems.
