Abstract

OBJECTIVE To approach the antimicrobial resistance of Escherichia coli(ECO) causing urinary tract infections in senile patients and provide experimental evidence for clinically reasonable use of antibiotics.METHODS The strains were isolated from urine specimens from senile patients with urinary tract infections.Reffering to National Guide to Clinical Laboratory Procedures, bacterial cultivation and identification were carried out.The susceptibility testings were performed by K-B methods.RESULTS The susceptibility testing of 195 isolates of ECO against 22 antibiotics indicated that varying antimicrobial resistance to commonly used antibiotics was found in ECO.The resistance rates of ECO to ampicilin(91.3%) and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole(70.3%) were the highest.ECO were 100.0% sensitive to imipenem and meropenem. The resistance rates to antibiotics in combination with enzyme inhibitors were distinctly lower than those of single antibiotics.CONCLUSION The multi-drug resistance is found in ECO.The effective prevention and controlling measurement should be adopted.
