Abstract

The Junggar basin is regarded as a largescale inland composite basin under the multiphase evolutions of compressed tectonic environment. The basin types are both foreland basin and intracontinental basin.Foreland basin is mainly located in the frontier of the thrust faulting of orogenic belt while the intracontinental basin is situated in the inland area of the basin.Based on the previous researches, combined with the further understanding of the present oilgas exploration, the exploitation of the Junggar basin, the analysis of the sedimental strata characteristics in different stages and the mountains profiles on the margin of the Junngar basin,it is considered that there are threeperiod foreland basins formed since the Permain in Junggar basin. The composition and superposition of those threeperiod foreland basins are the main reasons for the rich oil and gas resources and diversified reservoir models of the Junggar basin.
