A review of the research in Fenggu theory on Wen Xin Diao Long in the 20th century

The researches in Fenggu theory are mainly about two aspects:the discussion of the precise meaning of the category of Fenggu and the study on the theoretical value of Fenggu.Since Huang Kan's putting forward Feng means the meaning (content) of writings while Gu means the diction (form) of writings,scholars held different opinions:some agreed to Huang's theory,others extended it further or put forward different theories.In the meantime,active probe into the theoretical value of Fenggu was carried out in academic circles,pointing out its important place in the history of literary criticism and its limitations.
