Abstract

A chromogenic reaction of copper with a new chromogenic reagent, 1,5 (2 hydroxy 5 bromophenyl) 3 cyanoformazan (HBPCF) is studied in this paper. In pH=3.6 HAc NaAc medium, Cu(Ⅱ) reacts with the reagent to form a blue complex which exhibits an absorption maximum at 630 nm with a molar absorptivity of 2.8×10 4 L·mol -1 ·cm -1 .Beer's law is obeyed for 0~25 μg of copper in 25 mL of solution. The reagent which possesses excellent selectivity in this condition has been applied to the determination of micro amounts of copper in tea, green gram and aluminum alloys with satisfactory results.
