Abstract

Objective To explore the clinical diagnostic significance of variation of red blood cell parameters in children with chronic lead poisoning. Methods According to the clinical diagnoses,375 children were divided into the normal group(n=152),the high blood lead level group(n=131),and the chronic lead poisoning group(n=92).And the blood cell parameters were compared among the three groups. Results There were significant differences in red blood cell counting(RBC),hemoglobin concentration(Hb),hematocrit(Hct),mean corpuscular volume(MCV),mean corpuscular hemoglobin(MCH),and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration(MCHC) among the three groups.RBC,Hb,and Hct of the normal group were significantly higher than those of the high blood lead level group(P0.05),while RBC,Hb,and Hct of the high blood lead level group were significantly higher than those of the chronic lead poisoning group(P0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in MCV,MCH,and MCHC between the normal group and the high blood lead level group(P0.05),but MCV,MCH,and MCHC of the chronic lead poisoning group were significantly lower than those of the normal group and the high blood lead level group(P0.05). Conclusions The red blood cell parameters,including RBC,Hb,Hct,MCV,MCH,and MCHC decrease differently as a result of chronic lead poisoning.Determination of MCV,MCH,and MCHC is conducive to differential diagnosis of high blood lead level and chronic lead poisoning.
