Abstract

Aim To develope a simple and reliable assay for diagnosis of paragonimus infection Methods Using paragonimus adult worm soluble antigen and anti human IgG labelled with colloidal gold as color developing agent, and a dot immunogold filtration assay (DIGFA) 82 sera from paragonimiasis patients who were positive in sputum egg examination,201 sera from other various subjects were tested by DIGFA and ELISA was used as parallel control Results The sensitivities of DIGFA and ELISA were 98 8% (81/82) and 97 6% (80/82),specificities were 92% (185/201) and 93% (187/201) respectively The youden's index was 0 908 with DIGFA and 0 906 with ELISA There was no significant difference between two assays (P0 05) Conclusion It suggests that the DIGFA is as sensitive and specific as the ELISA,and has the advantage of simplicity and without specific equipment, which is fitful to clinical diagnosis and epidemiological investigation
