A Study on the Poetics of Renshan Yizhou

Poetry in Chinese written by the Japanese became prevalent during the Japanese colonial period in Taiwan,inheriting the prosperity of Chinese poetry of the late period of Edo and the early period of Meiji.This paper focuses on the poetics of Renshan Yizhou,the leader of the circle of Chinese poetry in Taiwan in the early Japanese colonial period.It examines the relationship between his poetry and the circle of Chinese poetry in the early period of Meiji,summarizing his central poetic ideas that there must be human element in poetry for it to have the moving power,that the principles,resources and branches of poetry should be emphasized,and that the Schools of Shenyun and Xingling should be advocated.
