On Rewriting History of Chinese Philosophy by Feng Youlan

Abstract

Mr. Feng Youlan underwent many twists and turns in rewriting History of Chinese Philosophy which reflects his aspiration in academic researchanalyzing the past for the purpose of future, and his sense of anxiety about the future of philosophy. By exploring his mental course in writing, this paper holds that intellectuals should have independent and criticizing spirit, and only in this way can the intellectuals pursue the academic researches in earnest and blaze new trails in philosophy.
