Abstract
This paper uses spatial econometrics model to study the relationship between inter-provincial tourism development and economic growth in China. The result shows that tourism development plays a long-term role in promoting economic growth at the level of provincial administrative regions during 1992-2007,that the economic growth of a region was influenced by tourism development both in its own region and the neighboring region;and that inbound tourism plaid a more significant role in economic growth than that of domestic tourism. Therefore, the authors suggest that provincial administrative regions strengthen inter-regional tourism cooperation and open up new international and domestic markets on the basis of tourism industrial distribution and function division.
