A constitutive model for coarse granular soil incorporating particle breakage

Abstract

Coarse granular aggregates are subjected to breakage during excessive stress changes. Most of the available constitutive models do not consider particle breakage during shearing. In the current model, the energy equation during shear deformation has been developed incorporating the plastic work;and the plastic flow rule is deduced.Adopting linear type yield locus and non-associated flow and hardening function derived from an undrained stress path,a constitutive model for coarse granular soil incorporating particle breakage is set up.It is shown that the proposed model can realistically describe the strength and deformation characteristics of soils at every confining pressure.
