Abstract

This paper provides a review of the research progress on the characteristics of particle breakage of coarse aggregates under high stress, including the particle breakage index, influencing factors, effects on soil strength, and constitutive models.Based on discussion of the problems in the research,it is pointed out that further research should focus on the following: application of the fractal theory to measurement of particle breakage, the effect of initial stress on the particle breakage rate, the effect of soil fabric on particle breakage, the effect of soil size on particle breakage, and constitutive models for crushable soils based on micromechanical mechanisms.
