Transurethral electrovaporization of benign prostatic hyperplasia

Objective To evaluate the cur at ive effect of transurethral electrovaporization of the prostate(TVP).Met hods A total of 1420 cases were followed up for at least 6 months and the safety and efficacy were reviewed including intra and post operative compli cations and results.Results Clinical efficiency of TVP was very satisfactory in all cases.The mean operative time was 52 min and the mean volum e of bleeding was 78ml.The mean catheterization time was 40.7h and the mean post operative hospital stay was 2.5 days.Peak urine flow increased from 8.7ml/s befo re operation to 19.7ml/s after operaton,20.3ml/s 6 months later IPSS decreased f rom 22.3 before operation to 6.8,6.0 at 3 and 6 months postoperatively respectiv ely(P0.001).Conclusion TVP is a safe and effe ctive surgical treatment for benign prostate hyperplasia with very satisfactory results.
