Long term results of transurethral electrovaporization of the prostate

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the long term results of transurethral electrovaporization of the prostate (TVP). Methods 420 cases were followed up for 6 months to 3 years and the safety and efficacy were reviewed including intra and post operative complications and long term results.Results Clinical efficacy of TVP was very satisfactory in all cases. Intra operative complications included: blood glucose elevated and sodium decreased in 7.6%, trausurethral resection syndrome 1%, capsular perforation 1.2%. I PSS was decreased from 21.8 preoperatively to 5.8 one year postoperatively, Q max was increased from 9.4 ml/s preoperatively to 18.6ml/s one year postoperatively. Postoperative complication rates were low.Conclusion TVP is a safe and effective surgical treatment for benign prostate hyperplasia with very satisfactory results.(Shanghai Med J, 1999,22∶529 531)
