An Analysis of the "lai(来)～" Structure in Wu Dialect

Abstract

The lai(来)～ structure is significant in Wu dialect.lai han(来汉)andlai li(来里) in Tong Lu dialect can be used as verb,preposition and auxiliary word.In this dialect,these two phrases are symmetrically distributed in respect of indicating position,showing tense meaning and being followed by nouns of location;in respect of using with various forms of verbs,these two phrases are different with auxiliary words zhe(着) and zai(在) in the mandarin.This semantic analysis and language investigation on this structure are meaningful to the revision of Tonglu Dialect(1992).
