Effects of Valsartan on Impact of Atrial Fibrillation in Hypertensive Patients with Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation

ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of valsartan on atrial fibrillation in patients with hypertension and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.Methods A total of 156 hypertensive patients in our hospital who also suffered paroxysmal atrial fibrillation were selected,and then were randomly divided into valsartan treatment group and the control group treated with amlodipine.Patients in the treatment group were treated with valsartan 80~160 mg/d,and patients in the control group were treated with amlodipine 5~10 mg/d,observed for 12 m.The blood pressure,left atrium diameter(LAD),and atrial fibrillation before and after the treatment were recorded.The changes of situation to maintain sinus rhythm,left atrium size and other parameters were compared after 12 m by statistical methods.Results There was significant difference between 2 groups.The situation of maintaining sinus rhythm and improvement of left atrium function of patients in valsartan treatment group was better than the control group.Conclusion Valsartan can improve the situation of maintaining sinus rhythm and left atrium function in hypertensive patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.
