Abstract
Objective To observe the clinical effect of strengthening perioperative respiratory management for elderly patients in thoracic surgery department. Methods 60 elderly patients in our hospital's thoracic surgery department from September 2006 to September 2010 were randomly divided into two groups:the observation group and the control group. The control group received routine care, while the observation group received perioperative respiratory management on the basis of routine nursing. Results The incidence of pulmonary infection was one case (3.33%) in the observation group, and 6 cases (20.00%) in the control group;no complications occured in the observation group, but it was 4 cases (13.33%) in the control group;hospitalization time were (21.28 ± 1.59) d in the observation group and (32.42 ± 1.86) d in the control group. The difference between the observation group and the control group was statistically significant (P 0.05).Conclusions Perioperative respiratory management for elderly patients in thoracic surgery department will be clinically applied and promoted,as it can effectively reduce the incidence of pulmonary infection, complications, and shorten hospitalization time.
