DEGRADATION OF THE COASTAL WETLANDS IN GUANGDONG PROVINCE AND COUNTERMEASURES

Guangdong Province is rich in coastal wetlands,which play a very important role in supporting ecological and economic security of the coastal area. In recent years,with the rapid development of industrialization and urbanization in the coastal area,coastal wetlands are polluted more and more seriously,fishery resources are over harvested and ecological environment of coastal wetlands is damaged by different forms of blind reclamation,degradation and loss of the coastal wetlands have restricted the sustainable development of the local society and economy. For rational development and management of coastal wetlands resources and environment in Guangdong,some countermeasures against the degradation of wetlands are suggested:1)to improve the related legislations and rules for protection of wetland resources;2)to establish the integrated and coordinated management mechanism for coastal wetlands;3)to establish demonstration area where the degradation trends of coastal wetlands are contained;4)to strengthen the construction of nature reserve for coastal wetlands;5)to increase public awareness on protection and wise use of the wetlands。
