Relationship between different kinds of leukocytes with the types and the severity of coronary heart disease

Objective To study the relationship between different kinds of leukocytes with the types and the severity of coronary heart disease.Methods 100 patients with coronary heart disease were divided into 3 groups:the SAP group including 30 cases of stable angina pectoris patients,the UAP group including 40 cases of unstable angina pectoris patients and the AMI group including 30 cases of acute myocardial infarction patients.Thirty patients who had normal coronary artery were chosen as control group.The total of leukocyte count,the count of different kinds of leukocytes and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio were detected.Results Among the four groups,leukocyte(WBC)total number of neutrophils(N)count,mononuclear cells(M)count,lymphocytes(L)counts and neutrophil/lymphocyte count(N/L)of the differences were statistically significant(P0.05 or P0.01),the count of eosinophil(E)and basophil(B)was no significantly different(P0.05),the total of leukocyte count was correlated with the extent(Gensini index)of coronary stenosis(r=0.27,P0.01).Conclusion The elevated neutrophil and monocyte level may reflect the severity and acute lesion of the conorary artery,the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio may be an important predictor of the event of acute myocardial infarction,the total of leukocyte count may be important in predicting the extent of coronary stenosis.
