Abstract

Objective To elucidate the expression of survivin in gallbladder carcinoma and its relation to the pathology. Methods The expression of survivin in gallbladder carcinoma tissues from January 2001 to December 2003 studied using immunohistochemical analysis a,the relationship between the expression and pathological stage, histological differentiation grade of the tumor analysed retrospectively. Results Survivin was expressed in 17 of 24 (70.8%) cases of human gallbladder carcinoma tissues. The expression of surviving had significantly relaed to the tumor stage, and the positive rate and level of survivin expression was significantly higher in the advanced stages (P 0.05).The positive level was higher in high grade lesion, but positive rate was not related to histological differentiation grade. Conclusion Survivin expressed in the most gallbladder carcinoma, and up-regulated especially in the advanced pathological stage. The relationship to the histological differentiation grade need further study.
