Abstract
Objective: To compare the efficacy and complications of nasal endoscopic low-temperature plasma radiofrequency ablation and bipolar electric coagulation in treatment of chronic hypertrophic rhinitis. Methods: 40 chronic hypertrophic rhinitis patients were treated by radiofrequency ablation and another 40 by bipolar electrocoagulation. After operation, all patients were followed up for 6 months. The compliant of nasal obstruction was evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS) before the treatment and 6 months after operation.Complications such as pain and nose bleeding during operation, and nasal adherence after operation were observed during the follow-up period. Results: The patients who received radiofrequency ablation or bipolar electrocoagulation were all effective. The differences of VAS scores before and after operation were statistically significant in both groups(P0.05).1 nasal adherence occurred in radiofrequency ablation group and 8 in bipolar electrocoagulation group.Bleeding was more in radiofrequency ablation group than in bipolar electrocoagulation group,The VAS scores of pain were 1.43±0.12 and 2.20±0.18.The difference of complications between the 2 groups was insignificant(P0.05).Conclusion: Radiofrequency ablation and bipolar electrocoagulation are all effective for chronic hypertrophic rhinitis. The former are with little complication.
