Abstract

Objective To investigate early intraocular pressure(IOP) changes after phacoemulsification with posterior chamber lens implantation. Methods 60 patients(60 eyes) with senile cataract were enrolled in this prospective study and were randomized into 4 groups(the contol group, the acetamide_treated group, the kamicalin_treated group and the acetamide with kamicalin_treated group). All these patients underwent phacoemulsification with posterior chamber lens implantation. The IOP was measured preoperatively and 2 hours,4 hours,6 hours,8 hours,10 hours, and 36 hours postoperatiely. The results were compared among the four groups. The IOP reading were statistically analyzed using the SPSS 10.0.Results IOP increased significantly shortly after surgery in all the eyes.It rose to the maximum 12 hours after surgery and decreased to the baseline 24_36 hours after surgery. The increase was significantly lower in kamicalin_treated and the acetamide_treated eyes. Conclusion The results indicate that IOP increases early after phacoemulsification with posterior chamber lens implantation. Therefore,to apply corresponding management properly and obtain better therapeutic effects of the operation,IOP should be measured regularly.
