China as Represented in the Novels Written in English by the Chinese American Writers

The perception of China in the Chinese American novels has been changing with different historical periods and much affected by variable factors such as Sino-American relations, Chinese immigrants' social status and the personal experience and disposition of the individual writers. However, to hope for a strong and integrated China is an expression common to them all. In the novels of 80's or 90's , ‘China’ functions more as a writing resource, indicating an imaginary space unique to the Chinese American writers. The reflections of China in the Chinese American writings not only help us maintain distinct trajectories of the overseas Chinese recognition of China, but provide us a mirror image for our own.
