Abstract
Objective To observe the influence of acupuncture and moxibustion on chronic primary thrombocytopenic purpura. Methods Eighty one subjects were randomly classified into acupuncture group ( n =31), moxibustion group ( n =25) and control group ( n =25); and the clinical symptome and the platelet count in the three groups before and after treatment were observed. Results After treatment, the clinical symptoms in the three groups improved or disappeared, with better effects in acupuncture and moxibustion groups than in control group; the platelet count in three groups increased, most obviously in acupuncture group and next in moxibustion group; the short term effects were better in acupuncture group than in moxibustion group and control group ( P 0.05, P 0.01), better in moxibustion group than in control group ( P 0.01); the long term effects were better in moxibustion group than in acupuncture group and control group ( P 0.01, P 0.01), better in acupuncture than in control group ( P 0.01). Conclusion Acupuncture and moxibustion have good effects on thrombocytopenic purpura, with better short term effects in acupuncture group and better long term effects in moxibustion group.
