NOTES ON CARIDINA FROM FUJIAN, CHINA (DECAPODA: CARIDEA)

The present paper reports eleverr species and subspecies of Caridina collected from Fujian Province during the past many years. A pew species is described as follows.Caridina leptocarpa sp. nov.Rostrum is rather wide, extending to distal end of the 2nd, segment of antennulaf ped-uncle in male and of the 3rd segment in female. The dorsal border bears 19-28 teeth, 6-10 of which situated on carapace behind the orbit; the ventral border bears l-9 (generally 3-7) teeth.The posterior margin of telson is broadly rounded, and furnished with 9-17 (frequently 10-14) long and sub-equal plumose setae between a pair of postero-lateral spinules.The stylocerite is long and reaches to the end of basal segment of the antennular pe-duncle in male, and beyond that in female.Carpus of the lst leg is 3.3-4.5 times as long as wide and about equal to chela. Carpus of the 2nd leg is very slender and long, and it is 8-11.5 times as long as wide. The propodus of the leg is 3.3-3.9 times as long as dactylus which bears 7-9 spinules. The propodus of the 5th leg is 16.5-19 times as long as wide in male and 12-15 times in female. The dac- tylus bears 13-21 (commonly 15-18) spinules.Endopod of Ist pleopod of male is leaf-shaped, about 2.1 times as long as wide, without appendix interna. The appendix masculina is rod-like, covered with long spines on the inner and distal borders.Remarks: The new species is ailied to Caridina hainanensis Liang et Yan in shape and devoid of appendix interna of the endopod of first male pleopod, but differs from the latter in the following features: (1) rostrum is rather wider, the rostral teeth on the carapace behind orbit are more in number, (2) the stylocerite is long, (3) the carpus of the Ist leg is about as long as chela, (4) the carpus of the 2nd leg is slender, (5) the spinules of the dactylus of the 3rd leg are more and those of the 5th leg are less, (6) the posterior border of telson is fur-njshed with long plumose setae.Type locality: Fuzhou (26°N, 119°E) (Min River), Fujian.The type specimens are preserved in the Shanghai Fisheries University.
