A NEW SPECIES OF CARIDINA (DECAPODA:CARIDEA) FROM YUNNAN, CHINA

The present paper deals with a new species of Caridina collected from a mountain stream at Qujing County in Yunnan Province in 1982. The type specimens are kept in the Shanghai Fisheries College.Caridina disparidentata, sp. nov.Rostrum is rather narrow, it reaches from the middle of the second segment to the extremity of the third segment of the antennular peduncle, the dorsal border bears 2-11 teeth, the number and distribution of which are varied in specimens. In some specimens teeth are distributed on both the rostrum and the carapace; in some, more numerous on the rostrum than on the carapace behind the orbit and vice versa; in some on the rostrum only, but in one on the carapace behind the orbit only.Carpus of the 1st leg is 1.9-2.2 times as long as wide and shorter than the merus. Carpus of the 2nd leg is 3.7-4.2 times as long as wide and shorter than the merus too. The third pair of legs of the males is longer than that of the females. Propodus is 3.4-3.8 times as long as dactylus, which bears 6-7 spinules. Propodus of the 5th leg is 3.5-3.9 times as long as dactylus, which bears 37-10 spinules.The endopod of 1st male pleopod is rectangular, the proximal part is wider than the distal part, the middle of the inner border is concave, appendix interna is situated at the distal part of the inner border, it reaches to the extremity of endopod. Appendix masculina is smaller, rod-shaped, its inner distal border bears two rows of stout spines.This new speies is closely allied to Caridina yunnanensis Yu, but differs from the latter in the following features: (1) number and distribution of the dorsal teeth on the rostrum are less and varied; (2) carpus and chela are shorter; (3) the third pair of legs of the male is longer than that of the female; (4) proportion of the propodus and dac-tylus of the third and fifth legs is less than 4 times ; (5) the appendix interna of the 1st male pleopod does not slant towards outside, the proximal half of the outer horder of the endopod is feather-shaped and its distal half is spine-shaped; (6) the appendix ma-sculina is smaller, rodshaped, and the spines extend towards the inside.Holotype ♂ (83-67-1), paratypes 5♂♂5♀♀, Qujing County, Yunnan.
