OBSERVATION ON GERMICIDAL EFFICACY AND TOXICITY OF A POVIDONEIODINE DISINFECTION SOLUTION

Objective To explore the germicidal efficacy and toxicity of a povidone-iodine disinfection solution.Methods Suspension quantitative germicidal test and animal toxicity test were used to observe the germicidal efficacy and toxicity of the povidone-iodine disinfection solution.Results The average killing logarithm value of Staphylococcus aureus in suspension exposed to povidone-iodine disinfection solution containing available iodine 250 mg/L for 1 min was 5.55,that of Pseudomonas aeruginosa exposed for 1 min was 5.70 and that of Candida albicans exposed for 2 min was 6.37.The killing logarithm values of natural bacteria on forearm skin surface of volunteer exposed to this disinfection solution containing available iodine 250 mg/L for 2 min were 1.00.The acute oral LD50 of the povidone-iodine disinfection solution in mice was 5000 mg/kg·bw,which belonged to nontoxic class.No irritant effect on skin and eye of experimental animals was observed.It could not cause micronucleus formation in mouse bone marrow polychromatic erythrocytes.Conclusion This povidone-iodine disinfection solution has good germicidal efficacy,low toxicity and no irritating action,and does not cause micronucleus formation.
