Abstract

In order to develop a new pattern of urban and rural co-ordination to integrate urban and rural economic and social development, on the one hand, we should vigorously promote urbanization, and continue to accelerate the transfer of rural surplus labor force. On the other hand we should build a new socialist countryside, gradually changing the backwardness in rural areas. Both these two aspects are indispensable and complement each other. By analyzing a number of issues of urbanization and the new rural development, we conclude that urbanization and new rural construction should be at both ends to promote the establishment of industries, space, employment, and helping mechanisms to realize the coordination of economic and social development in urban and rural areas.
