Abstract
Butyl p-hydroxy benzoate was synthesized by the reaction of p-hydroxy benzoic acid with butyl alcohol in the presence of p-methyl benzene sulfonic acid under microwave irradiation, and the influencing factors of reaction were investigated. The optimum conditions were determined as follows:the mole ratio of p-hydroxy benzoic acid to butanol was 1∶2,microwave irradiation power was 500 W and the reaction time was 30 min,the yield of butyl p-hydroxy benzoate was 97%.
