Abstract
Objective To study the correlation between biofilm formation and genotype of Acinetobacter baumannii. Methods Microtitre plate assay was used to semiquantify biofilm formation of 42 strains of clinically isolated Acinetobacter baumannii. Then the genotypes were determined by the enterbacter repetitive intergenic consensus PCR(ERIC-PCR) method. Results Of the 42 isolates studied,22(52.4%) formed biofilms in vitro,20(47.6%) did not form biofilms. The 42 isolates were classified into 12 genotypes by ERIC-PCR.The biofilm-forming isolates scattered in each group without centralization and regularity. Conclusion There are no correlations between biofilm-forming and genotype of isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii. The formation of biofilm in Acinetobacter baumannii may be regulated by other environmental or inherent factors.
