Evaluation of the antihypertensive effect of Irbesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide combination assessed by ambulatory blood pres- sure monitoring

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the trough/peak(T/P) ratio and antihypertensive effects of Irbesartan/Hydrochlo-rothiazide combination. Methods: Opened clinical trial. 28 patients with mild to moderate hypertension took Irbesartan/ Hydrochlorothiazide combination once a day for 8 weeks. 24h Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring was done before and after treatment respectively. T/P ratios were calculated. Results: The mean trough/peak ratios of SBP and DBP in re-sponders were 56. 1% and 55. 3% ,mean 24h blood pressure decreased 22. 2/13. 3mmHg,mean blood pressure of daytime and nighttime decreased 23. 8/14. 1mmHg and 15. 0/9. 1mmHg. Conclusions: Therapy with Irbesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide combination once a day can provide reduction of blood pressure for 24 hours.
