Abstract
Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of measles and discuss the strategies of controlling measles. Methods The descriptive study was performed to analyze the epidemic status of measles in 2006 in Dandong City based on the data from the conventional report system of communicable diseases. Results The reportedincidence of measles was 21.66/100000 in 2006,being the highest in recent 10 years. Both sporadic local outbreaks were recorded. The number of cases in outbreaks accounted for 27.8% of the total cases. The hign incidence of measles was seen between March and July. The infants in the aged group of 0 years old and children in the age group of 10-15 years old were the high risk population. Those with history of measles vaccination accounted for 32% of all cases, while those without the history accounted for 8.19% and those of unknown immunization accounted for 59.8%.Conclusion To control local outbreak of measles the work of conventional immunization with measles vaccines and the fortified immunzation with measles vaccines still needs to be strengthened and the management of mobile population be strengthened.
