Abstract

Objective: To determine the safety and tolerability of hot lipiodol with ~(90)Y intratumor injection for treatment of mouse transplanted liver cancer. Methods: 40 Kunming mice transplanted liver cancer were randomly divided into 4 groups, and injected respectively with ~(90)Y in hot lipiodol(group A),hot lipiodol(group B),~(90)Y(group C),and physiological saline(groups D).Pathologic examination of the tumor and main organs, and the determination of liver and renal functions and routine blood test were performed. The Radiodistribution of ~(90)Y was measured. Results: In group A,the tumor growth was markedly retarded and eventually un-palpable.Histological examinations showed complete necrosis of the tumor. In groups B and up C,the tumor growth was also inhibited. However,Histological examinations showed incomplete necrosis of the tumors in groups B and C,while Only isolated, spotty foci of necrosis were present in the tumors of untreated control group(groups D).Conclusion: Intratumor injection of hot lipiodol with ~(90)Y is a safe, feasible and effective method to treat liver cancer.
