Abstract

OBJECTIVE To study the chemical constituents of the roots of Ilex pubescens Hook.et Arn to illuminate its substance foundation for pharmacological activity.METHODS Compounds were isolated by silica gel column chromatography and purified by repeated ODS and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography,their structures were elucidated on the basis of physico-chemical constants and spectral analysis.RESULTS The structures of 14 compounds were determined as 3-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl spathodic acid 28-β-D-glucopyranosyl ester(1),syringaresinol mono-β-D-glucoside(2),magnolenin C(3),liriodendrin(4),ilexsaponin A1(5),ilexsaponin B1(6),ilexsaponin B2(7),ilexoside A(8),ilexoside O(9),ilexgenin A(10),ilexgenin B 3-O-β-D-xylopyranoside(11),myoinositol(12)、β-sitosterol(13) and daucosterol(14).CONCLUSION Compound 1 was a new compound,compound 2 was isolated from the genus of Ilex for the first time,and compound 3 was isolated from this plant for the first time.
