A Comparison of Digestion Metabolism and Slaughter Performance between 8-mounth-old Cele-black and Small-tail Han Male Lambs

Abstract

In this experiment 8 of 40 day's old weaned male lambs of the Xinjiang Cele Black or Small Tail Han sheep(each n=4) were respectively selected for the comparison of the digestion metabolism and slaughter performance between these two species.The animals were raised until 240 day's old under house feeding,and the experiment of the digestion and metabolism was carried on after 230 day's old.The results showed that the voluntary OM intake of Small Tail Han and Cele Black sheep were(1306.1±35.7) and(1108.8±26.5) g/d(P0.05)respectively;fiber digestibility were(54.66±5.46) and(61.79±3.88)%(P0.05)respectively.The body weights of Small Tail Han and Cele Black sheep at 240 day's old were(44.09±4.48) and(38.13±4.25) kg/sheep respectively,the Small Tail Han lamb is higher by 15.6%(P0.01);carcass weights were(21.85±3.74) and(18.19±2.51) kg/sheep respectively,the Small Tail Han lamb is higher by 20.1%(P0.01);the lean meat weights of carcass were(14.61±2.52) and(11.94±1.71) kg/sheep respectively,the Small Tail Han lamb is higher by 22.4%(P0.01).It is indicated that the meat production performance of Cele Black sheep is lower than that of Small Tail Han lamb,however,the Cele Black lamb has higher ability on the digestion of fiber.
