Abstract

Ni-Ti alloy was electrochemically polished with a modified acetic acid and perchloric acid solution,aiming at exploring a preferable electrochemical polishing process for the alloy.The effects of the electrolyte composition and electrochemical polishing parameters on the morphology and surface roughness of Ni-Ti alloy were studied using a scanning electron microscope and a profilometer.Results indicated that the electrolyte composition was critical to the electrochemical polishing of the Ni-Ti alloy,and well acceptable polishing effect was achieved at a current density of 1.0 A/cm2,temperature of 0 ℃,polishing time of 45 s,and electrode gap of 1.5 cm,corresponding to a reduced surface roughness of about 70 nm.In comparison with the unpolished samples,the surfaces of the electrochemically polished Ni-Ti alloy were more smooth and uniform and defect-free as well.
