Abstract
Objectives To investigate changes in the expression of adhesion molecules of peripheral blood monocytes(PBMs) and their ratio of white blood cell in patients with coronary heart diseases (CHD). Methods The ratio of monocytes and their surface expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) were measured by direct immunofluorescence technique in combination with flow cytometry. Results The positive correlations between high monocyte ratio and acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and severity of coronary artery stenosis were significant (P 0.05). The level of the monocytes was the highest in the ACS group and the group under three branches arteies stenosis(P 0.05). Expression of ICAM-1 in monocytes were significantly higher in CHD group than in control subjects (P 0.05). It was the highest of the expression of ICAM-1 in the group under three branches coronary arteries stenosis. Conclusions It was suggested that there is activation of monocytes of circulating blood in patients with CHD, and the activity is related to severity of coronary stenosis.
