Abstract

Objective In order to explore a new method for monitoring the genetic quality of laboratory animals,a comparison of RAPD map and STR map with the biochemical labeling in monitoring inbred BABL/c mouse was carried out. Methods DNA was extracted from the tail of inbred BALB/c mice.6 pairs of RAPD primers and 20 pairs of STR primers were used to amplify the mouse DNA.13 loci of biochemical analysis were used to monitor the quality of inbred BALB/c mouse. Results The amplified band patterns were obviously different in the products of 4 RAPD primers(p2,p3,p5 and p6) and 4 STR primers(2,4,10,11),and 6 loci depicted by biochemistry were different in the inbred BALB/c mice. Conclusion The results indicate that to a certain extent the results of RAPD and STR are comparable with that of biochemical labeling, and RAPD and STR can be used to monitoring the genetic quality of inbred laboratory animals.
