Abstract

Objective To evaluate the influence of Xuebijing injection on serum interleukin-6(IL-6) and interleukin-10(IL-10) in patients with severe pneumonia. Methods 40 patients with severe pneumonia were randomly divided into Xuebijing goup(n=20) and control group(n=20).Two groups were both treated with mechanical ventilation,anti-infection and other treatments needed. The Xuebijing group were treated with Xuebijing injection additionally. The serum IL-6 and IL-10 were determined by cytometric bead array(CBA) before and after treatment. The PO2/FiO2,CPIS and mechanical ventilation time were calculated and patients' results were recorded before and after treatment. Results The concentrations of IL-6 after treatment in two groups decreased significantly(P0.01).The concentration of IL-6 in Xuebijing group decreased more significantly than that in control group(P0.01).The concentrations of IL-10 after treatment in two groups increased significantly(P0.01).The concentration of IL-10 in Xuebijing group increased more significantly compared with control group(P0.05).The PO2/FiO2,CPIS after treatment in two groups improved more significantly than those before treatment(P0.01).The number of withdraw ventilator patients in Xuebijing group was 15 versus 9 in control group(P0.05).The average mechanical ventilation time in Xue-bijing group was 6.5±2.0 days versus 8.0±2.4 days in control group(P0.05).No patient died in Xuebijing group while one patient died of CAP in control group(P0.05).Conclusion Xuebijing injection can inhibit the inflammatory response of severe pneumonia, change the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and anti-inflammatory cytokines may be one of the mechanisms.
