Open publisher page 12 citations

Abstract

Based on a brief review of the latest developments in sedimentology, the author puts forward several research areas that should be strengthened in the near futures in China, including studies of continental deposits, carbonate deposits, near-shore and shallow sea siliciclastic deposits and deep-sea deposits.New research should be directed to studies on as sedimentary basins, paleoclimate, Precambrian sedimentary records, sedimentology related to human living environment, regional and global sedimentology. In order to deepen our knowledge in these topics, it is suggested to develop a system to encourage geoscientists to study sedimentological problems and observe sedimentological phenomena. New methods and technology are also emphasized. In conclusion, ten proposals are given in order to further develop sedimentological studies in China.
