Abstract

Objective:To analyze the risk factors of carotid atherosclerosis(CAS).Methods:Totally 83 patients were examined by B-mode ultrasound to measure intima-media thickness(IMT)of the common carotid artery and plaque formation. The patients were divided into group A(carotid IMT ≥ 1.0 mm and/or the presence of carotid plaque)and group B(carotid IMT 1.0 mm and the absence of carotid plaque). The differences of the risk factors between two groups were analyzed. Results:The levels of systolic blood pressure(SBP),total cholesterol(TC),low dense lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),uric acid(UA),lipoprotein a[Lp(a)],high sensitive C-reactive protein(Hs-CRP),Interleukin-6(IL-6)and fibrinogen(FIB)in group A were significantly higher than those in group B(P 0.05).The result of logistic regression analysis indicated that male,LDL-C and IL-6 were the independent risk factors. Conclusion:The traditional risk factors and the inflammatory markers are strongly and closely related to the occurrence and development of CAS.
