Analysis of Risk Factors for Type 2 Diabetes with Carotid Atherosclerosis

Objective To investigate the relationship between carotid atherosclerosis of type 2 diabetic patients with its risk factors. Methods The carotid intima-media thickness(IMT)was examined in 109 patients with type 2 diabetes by Philips 7500 Color Doppler ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus. The patients were divided into group A(carotid IMT1.0mm and the absence of carotid plaque)and group B (carotid IMT≥1.0mm and/or the plaque). The differences of the risk factors between two groups were analyzed. Results There were significant differences in age,systolic blood pressure,fasting blood glucose,total cholesterol,low density lipoprotein cholesterol,uric acid and carotid IMT(P0.01 or P0.05)between two groups. Logistic regression analysis showed that age(B=0.052,P0.05),systolic blood pressure(B=0.029,P0.05),low density lipoprotein cholestero(lB=1.771,P0.01)and uric acid(B=0.006,P0.05)were the risk factors for type 2 diabetes with carotid atherosclerosis. Conclusion Age,systolic blood pressure,low density lipoprotein cholesterol,uric acid are risk factors for type 2 diabetes with carotid atherosclerosis.
