Abstract

Objective To evaluate the value of the proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy(~1H MRS)on the metabolism of the substantia nigra in patients with Parkinson disease.Methods ~1H MRS were administered to 56 patients with Parkinson disease and 30 volunteers,determining NAA/Cr,NAA/Cho,and Cho/Cr ratios in bilateral substantia nigra.Results There was no significant difference in NAA/Cr,Cho/Cr,NAA/Cho ratios in substantia nigra between the patients with Parkinson disease and controls.No significant correlation was found between any of the measured ratios and motor disability and disease duration.Conclusion ~1H MRS can not show the metabolic changes precisely in the substantia nigra in patients with Parkinson disease.
