Expression of Matrix Matalloproteinase-10 in Colorectal Carcinoma and Its Clinical Significance

Objective To explore the expression of matrix matalloproteinase-10(MMP-10) in colorectal carcinoma and its clinical significance.Methods The expressions of MMP-10 in 68 colorectal carcinoma tissues and 12 normal colonic mucosa specimens were detected using immunohistochemical methods,and its relationship with clinical pathological parameters were analyzed.Results The positive rate of MMP-10 in 68 primary colorectal carcinoma tissues was 69.1%,while no expression of MMP-10 was detected in the normal colonic mucosa.The positive rate of MMP-10 was 82.9% in the colorectal carcinoma tissues with lymph node metastasis and was 54.5% in those without lymph node metastasis(P0.05).The positive rate of MMP-10 was 91.7% in the colorectal carcinoma tissues with peritoneal implantation and was 64.3% in those without peritoneal implantation(P0.05).The positive rate of MMP-10 was 60.6% in StageⅠ-Ⅱ colorectal carcinoma tissues and was 82.9% in Stage Ⅲ-Ⅳ colorectal carcinoma tissues(P0.05).The positive rate of MMP-10 was 77.8% in the colorectal carcinoma tissues with serous membrane invasion and was 52.2% in those without serous membrane invasion(P0.05).Immunohistochemical staining showed that the expression of MMP-10 was negative in normal mucosa and positive in primary tumor tissues.The expression intensity of MMP-10 in the metastastic lymph nodes was consistent with that in the primary tumor.Surrounding hepatic metastasis also strongly expressed MMP-10,while the expression of MMP-10 in the metastatic lesions was inferior to that in the primary tumor tissues.Conclusion MMP-10 is highly expressed in colorectal carcinoma tissues.The positve expression of MMP-10 is closely correlated with the occurrence,progression,invasion,and metastasis of colorectal cancer,and therefore plays a key role in abdominal cavity metastasis.MMP-10 can be a metastatic predictor and prognostic marker for colorectal cancer.
