Abstract

Objective To determine the prevalent characteristic of allergens in patients with allergic rhinitis in Shunde. Methods A total of 519 outpatients who were diagnosed with allergic rhinitis by history and clinical presentation, underwent a skin prick test with standardized allergens. The samples were stratified on two age groups:4 to 18-year-old set a minor group (n=175) and 19 to 69-year-olds set to adult group(n=344).Difference of SPT responses of the two groups was investigated. Results The positive rate of skin prick test was 89.4%.The three top most important inhaled allergens were as followed:Dermatophagoides farinae (79.0%),Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus(74.1%),cockroach (46.8%).Most cases were sensitive to more than one allergens. The positive rate of minor group to dust mite was significantly higher compared to adult group(p0.05).There were significantly higher sensitivity to dust mite among minor group compared to adult s group (p0.005).Conclusion The mite was the most important allergen in Shunde,so the specific immunotherapy should be attached importance.
