Abstract

Objective:To investigate the value of ultrasonography and fine needle aspiration biopsy(FNAB) in the diagnosis of breast cancer. Methods: Total of 128 patients with palpable breast mass( 2 cm in diameter) were examined by ultrasonography and FNAB respectively, and the results were compared with the result of pathology. Results: Among the 128 patients,48 were confirmed to be breast cancer by pathology. The sensitivity of ultrasonography in diagnosis of cancer was 61.8%(21/34)and specificity was 80.8%(59/73).The sensitivity of FNAB in diagnosis of cancer was 95.6%(43/45)and specificity was 87.1%(27/31).Though there was no significant difference in specificity between ultrasonography and FNAB(P 0.05),the sensitivity of FNAB in diagnosis of cancer was higher than ultrasonography(P0.05).Conclusion: FNAB can give a quite reliable diagnostic value in breast cancer.Fine needle aspiration cytology is a useful and convenient diagnosis method for breast cancer, which also can supply reliable foudation for operation and other treatments.
