Mei Yaochen: Founder of Poetry in the Song Dynasty

Mei Yaochen, born in Xuancheng, was a poet in Northern Song dynasty. In his earlier years, the Xikun school of poetry exercised an influence on his mind;later he broke free of the convertions of the Xikun school and took an active part in the Poetic Inrovatory Movement in Northern Song dynasty led by Ouyang Xiu. He wrote a great many of good poems, concerning the nation’s development and people’s life and the criticism of the current social affairs, so he was regarded not only as a famous poet by Lu You, but also as the founder of poetry in Northern Song dynasty by Liu Kezhuang.
