Abstract

Via an HPLC,the stability of cefuroxime sodium in deionized aqueous solution was investigated systematically, including factors such as initial concentration, temperature, ionic strength,pH values and EDTA disodium salt solution. The results revealed that the degradation kinetics matched well with the first order reaction. Its stability decreased with the increasing of temperature. The period of validity of cefuroxime sodium was about 65.1,25.8,15.8,5.6,3.9 and 2.0 h with the storage temperature of 5,15,5,35,39,45 ℃ respectively. Its activation energy was about 62.27 kJ/mol.The degradation rate increased with the increasing of ionic strength. As for the effects of the pH values,it revealed that cefuroxime sodium was relatively stable in neutral conditions with a lowest degradation rate. And the degradation rate changed slowly in an acidic condition, but increased rapidly in the alkaline environment.Although the chelating agent(EDTA disodium) could slow down the color change of the cefuroxime sodium deionized aqueous solution, the degradation rate was not decreased. All of the results could provide theoretical basis for the optimizing production, preparation, storage and usage process.
