Abstract

In order to evaluate neuroprotective effect of α-lipoic acid(LA) in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion(IR) injury,we used bilateral carotid arteries occlusion model of rats and analysised the changes of superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) and malondialdehyde(MDA) in the brain tissue 6 h,1 d,3 d and 5 d after reperfusion following 10 min forebrain ischemia. The results showed:in predeterminate time, the activity of SOD and GSH-Px in rat brain tissues in old group was significantly lower than that in young group(P0.05);the content of MDA was significantly higher than that in young group(P0.05);and LA can increase the activity of SOD and GSH-Px,halt lipid peroxidative reactions in brain(P0.01).It had been proved that LA can protect brain tissue from IR injury.
